what is sports medic?
Sports medic focuses on physical fitness and the prevention/treating of injuries. This role in the SEPEP program provides a good opportunity for students to learn how to run the first aid component in sporting programs.
lesson 5
In lesson 5 teams will be released and you will be allocated your role as the sports medic. In this lesson you will need to look at the role in more depth and select an app to use which you feel would be effective to use in the SEPEP program. The app chosen should help you as a sports medic thought out the SEPEP program, expanding your knowledge in a certain area or helping you organise/record information.
As a sports medic knowledge of first aid is important, it is recommended you learn RICER as this is used for most of the common injuries associated with netball. Also take note of any injuries or health concerns team members currently have, or could be aggravated whilst playing netball. e.g. asthma, knee problems, strained ankle.

lesson 6-10
In lessons 6-10 the round robin competition will be held between teams. It is your job to take care of the teams physical health as a spots medic.
- Run stretching sessions in warm up and cool downs for games is a important part in injury prevention for athletes.
- Record athletes injuries received/aggravated during games and offer basic first aid if needed
- When your team has a bye check with them how they are feeling when playing netball and if they have any concerns. If they are sore from previous games provide them with stretches for the specific areas.
- Follow up each week on injuries/health conditions, monitoring your team mates conditions and progress. This could determine whether they are fit to play the current round.
- Use your app you selected to offer advice to students for their physical health or record information
lesson 11
Horray it's finals week! this means it is the last week of your year 10 SEPEP program. Finals can be more competitive compared to the normal round robin competition, and with more competition comes a higher risk of injuries as athletes push themselves further. As a sports medic it is really important that you are on top of your game, your team needs to have an effective warmup and cool down to prevent injuries. Add some extra stretches and hold for longer to really make sure the body is physically prepared for the exercise. Work with the coach, look at players with health concerns and put them in positions where it has the least likely impact on their body. This way they don't put themselves in as much risk and can utilise their skills.
The results page will declare the overall winner of the tournament. You can add to this page some helpful tips on keeping your body physically healthy after exercise, include some stretches for injury prevention as well.
